Many Amazon sellers do not realize how much money they could be getting back with Amazon FBA seller refunds. I just got over $6000 back from Amazon on 3 of my own accounts! Let me explain how. 

Amazon does a good job of reimbursing sellers for items that they lose or damage at their FBA warehouses. However, in our experience, a lot of those transactions slip through the cracks, and Amazon does not reimburse those amounts to sellers unless they open a case. 

Historically, Amazon allowed sellers to ask for FBA seller refunds for lost and damaged items that happened up to 18 months ago. However, in a recent announcement, they are closing that look-back window to only 2 months!

What this means for sellers is that you have a very limited time to get your money back from Amazon. 

The first step in getting your Amazon FBA seller refund is by auditing your FBA reports. You will need to look at your ledger report and your reimbursement report and check to see if you have already been reimbursed by Amazon for all the cases of lost and damaged items at FBA warehouses. 

For some who have a high volume of orders, doing this kind of audit takes a lot of time, or they do not know how to reconcile it. That’s where tools like Helium 10’s Refund Genie come in.

How Refund Genie Works

Step 1

My first step was to look at Refund Genie to check which accounts I was owed what on.

My next step was to click on each of the accounts that had a star on them to view the reports of all the lost items.

In the UK marketplace alone I was owed 1100 pounds– which is the equivalent of $1500! Amazon requires the FNSKU of each item that I was owed an FBA reimbursement on.  

Step 3

Next, I copied the FNSKU from Refund Genie and went to the Seller Central Help page for the UK marketplace.

Step 4

From there, I just clicked on the “Inventory Lost in FBA warehouse” button.  If that button is not there, just click on, “My issue is not listed,” and type out, “Investigate inventory lost in FBA warehouse.” The box will show up where you need to paste the FNSKU from Refund Genie.

Step 5

After pasting the FNSKU and hitting continue, Amazon will verify if you are doing an FBA seller refund or reimbursement. In just a few seconds, it will give you the results and as you can see below, it agreed with Refund Genie, and said we were owed money for one unit, and that they will process it in the next few days!

Sometimes, it might say that a case has to be opened for further review, so if you see that message, make sure to hit that “open case” button before going to the next step. 

Step 6

Once you’re finished, go to the top of the page, hit the “Get Help With New Issue” button, and start the process again!  Don’t forget to hit processed in Refund Genie after everyone you do.
